Local Offer

Riverbank School has historically catered for pupils with Severe Learning Needs. However, as we evolve, we are now supporting an ever increasing cohort of pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition, Speech, Language and Communication Needs alongside complex medical and sensory needs.

Cardiff Council have provided schools across Cardiff with money in order to have access to a range of specialist services, in order to identify pupils who are having difficulties with learning, and offer them extra support. Within our local authority there is a range of services aimed to support young people, including Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists and Physiotherapists. Here at Riverbank, we are lucky enough to have the ongoing support of an Occupational Therapist to help our pupils with sensory and physical needs alongside a dedicated speech and language team. The level of support depends on the child's level of need, more of which can be found within our Engagement Policy.

There is also a range of support teams available across Cardiff, including:

  • Autism Support Team
  • Behaviour Support Team
  • HIVI Support Team
  • Learning Interventions Team
  • SEN casework Team
  •  Speech and Language Team

Early Years

There are also a range of support systems in place for children in the early years, such as support for children with additional needs alongside specialist outreach teams, including our very own Early Years Outreach service, run by specialist staff at Riverbank School.

'ASPIRE can offer advice and support for Nursery or Reception-aged children with developmental delays. They will provide advice on how to adapt learning activities, and on which resources and activities will help them make progress. They may help the school to set learning appropriate targets in an Individual Play Plan (IPP) or an Individual Education Plan (IEP).ASPIRE also offers training/modelling/sharing good practice in partnership with the Early Years Inclusion Team to settings and schools throughout Cardiff. Referrals are through Early Years Forum and the focus is on Nursery and Reception-aged children'
